The Scandinavian Journal of Economics awarded the David Davidson Prize, named after the founder and first editor of the journal, to Gerard van den Berg (University of Mannheim) and Johan Vikström (IFAU, Sweden) for their paper “Monitoring job offer decisions, punishment, exit to work, and job quality”. The paper was chosen by the editors as best paper of 2014.

In one of his latest studies, Gerard van den Berg examines the economic consequences of one of the most traumatic events parents can experience: the death of a child. He finds long-term effects on the bereaved parents' economic situation and health.
